DEFINITION:

A fresh water buffer is a chemical "system" of blended potassium and sodium phosphate salts designed to help resist pH-drop, called acidification. Depending on the specific blend of chemicals in the buffer, it should hold a given pH "target" until fish -loads, fish wastes, acid-rain, and dilution from partial water changes eventually weaken the buffers holding capacity, and then more buffer should be added to re-establish the pH-target. NO BUFFER LASTS INDEFINITELY! NO BUFFER EFFECTIVELY RAISES AND LOWERS A pH TO A GIVEN TARGET pH!

USAGE:

  • Freshwater pH buffers "work" according to rigid chemical performance parameters. Despite creative copy and fancy buffer names found on competitive products, these buffers cannot be added to water and automatically adjust any pH up and /or down to the target of that buffer, and then hold that target.
  • Buffers can lower a pH to a target and then hold that target for awhile, but buffers cannot quite fully raise the pH to the holding level without first using a pH increaser like MYDORS' pH-EASE: Increase TM to raise it to the target, and then it will hold that target. SUCH THE ESTABLISHED NATURE OF BUFFERS!
  • To alert users of buffers to their real performance-potentials, MYDORS' label instructions tell it like it really is!
      • To LOWER the pH and HOLD it at (6.5/7.0/7.5): Add one scoopful (scoop in package) of this buffer/10 Gal. (37.8L).
      • To RAISE the pH and HOLD it at (6.5/7.0/7.5): First adjust it with an increaser (MYDORS' pH-EASE: Increase TM and then add one scoopful (scoop in package) of this buffer/10 Gal. (37.8L).
      • All MYDOR BUFFERS come with an inpacked measuring scoop.

HARDWATER AFRICAN CICHLID pH BUFFER

(TARGET 8.5) FOR RIFT LAKE SPECIES

DEFINITION:

An African Cichlid Hardwater Buffer is a chemical "system" of blended carbonate and bicarbonate salts designed to help resist acidification (pH drop) in a high pH hardwater environment, as found in the three East African rift lake waters. Surveys of each rift lake reveal pH-ranges dependent on water depth, water turbidity and proximity to streams/rivers feeding freshwater into these lakes. Those ranges suggested an 8.5, one pH MYDOR product for all three lakes species:
LAKE
pH RANGE
AVERAGE pH
VICTORIA
8.0 - 8.8
8.4
MALAWI
8.5 - 8.6
8.55
TANGANYIKA
8.6 - 9.1
8.86
NOTE:
  1. MYDORS' Target 8.5 pH BUFFER should satisfy the "comfort zone" of all African Cichlids. But for "purists" we suggest a doubled-dose of buffer foa a highter pH level for Tanganyika Species.
  2. MYDORS' AFRICAN CICHLID TARGET 8.5 BUFFER is also supplemented with essential trace elements which occur naturally in rift lakes cichlid waters.

USAGE:

This Carbonate/Bicarbonate buffer systems performance is on label instructed:
    • To raise a low pH and hold it at about 8.5 : Add 1 level scoop (inpacted) per 30 Gallons (113.5 L).
    • To lower a high pH and hold it at about 8.5: First adjust with a pH decreaser (MYDORS' pH DECREASE) close to target pH, and then add about 1/2 scoop (inpacked) per 30 Gallons (113.5 L).
